Local Rotarians rolled up their sleeves and made a big impact during a recent Rotary Volunteer Day supporting ReNew the Block, a Habitat for Humanity initiative dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods and promoting sustainable living. The event brought together members of Rotary Club of La Crosse, Rotary After Hours, and several friends and community volunteers for a day of hands-on service and collaboration.
Throughout the morning, volunteers constructed elevated garden beds, installed rain barrels, and helped create greener, more accessible outdoor spaces for local residents. These improvements support ReNew the Block’s mission to strengthen neighborhoods through practical, environmentally friendly upgrades that enhance both beauty and functionality. Despite an approaching storm, the group worked with impressive speed and teamwork—finishing the projects just before the rain arrived. The shared sense of purpose, paired with a little weather-driven urgency, made the day both productive and memorable.
Habitat staff ensured materials were prepped and ready, helping the build process run smoothly. Special thanks go to Neil Weiser, whose well-equipped truck—complete with a saw and other power tools—proved invaluable. Leadership for the day was provided by Steve O’Malley, Rotarian and Habitat Board Member, along with Rotarians Stefanie Kline and Anna Sprague, who helped coordinate volunteers and keep the momentum going.
The event highlighted the power of partnership and the strong spirit of service that defines Rotary. Volunteers left with a sense of accomplishment, stronger connections, and enthusiasm for future collaborative projects. Plans are already underway for additional volunteer days that will continue building community, strengthening relationships, and supporting meaningful work throughout the La Crosse area. We hope other District 6250 clubs can put a call to action to volunteer and collab together like we do in the La Crosse Area.
