Marshfield Rotary member Ben Bauer has released his first children’s book, Mary’s Bright Idea — a project rooted deeply in the spirit of Rotary, community, and the power of service. Ben has served in several District and Zone leadership roles, including District 6250 Governor in 2022-2023.

Inspired by the magic and generosity surrounding Marshfield’s beloved holiday light display, the story follows a young girl named Mary who discovers that behind all the sparkle is a mission to help others. Through gentle storytelling and beautiful illustrations by Kylie Ganther, the book highlights themes that every Rotarian will recognize: kindness, empathy, community, and the impact of small acts of service.

Many District 6250 members know Ben through his leadership roles, including his year as Club President during DG Mary Van Hout’s term, where the international theme “Be a Gift to the World” made a lasting impression. That spirit is woven throughout the book.

This book grew out of my love for our community and the incredible impact of service-minded people working together,” Ben shared. “I wrote it to bring joy to families, but also to honor the real purpose behind the event that inspired it — helping those in need. I’m excited for the good it can do.

In true Rotary fashion, Ben is donating all net proceeds from the book to The Rotary Foundation and the Marshfield Rotary Foundation. Every purchase directly supports local and international service initiatives including hunger relief, youth programs, community development, and more.

This project also stands as a reminder that the values we talk about — service, compassion, and community — can be shared meaningfully with even the youngest readers.
