Many of you recite the Four Way Test at every meeting, so the phrase, “In the things we think, say and do” is very familiar. Today, I encourage you to pause and reflect on how this phrase pertains to you and your role within your club. How you THINK, SAY and DO for your club is instrumental in shaping its Public Image.
When you THINK about your club, how does it make you feel? Do you reflect on friendships? Are you eager to attend meetings and club socials? Do you consider Rotary simply as only your club or do you recognize it as part of District 6250, a zone, and an international community as well? If we apply Norman Vincent Peale’s quote, “Change your thoughts, and you change world,” imagine the possibilities for your club with such intentional thoughts!
What do you SAY about your club in your home, at your office, in social settings? Do people know you are a Rotarian? Do they know what Rotary is because of you? Are you intentional about chatting with friends and your community about your club’s service projects both locally and internationally? Does Rotary have a positive image because of the good things you say about it? Have you ever expressed that you HAVE to fill a role in your club or do you say you are HONORED to hold that position? When people ask you about Rotary, are you prepared to SAY what will intrigue them to join your club? Remember the well-known phrase, “actions speak louder than words.” How are you speaking about your relationship with Rotary without saying a word?
What do you DO in your club - for your club - about your club? Do you attend meetings regularly? Have you volunteered for service projects? Do you take free classes through the Learning Center on My Rotary to broaden your understanding of Rotary? Are you proudly wearing your Rotary pin, hat, t-shirt, sweatshirt, attitude? Are you laughing, smiling, and engaging others? If you are active on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, are you following your club and sharing its posts? Are you posting about your club’s activities?
“In the things we THINK, SAY and DO” regarding your club, you contribute to its PUBLIC IMAGE. Take a moment to reflect on how you can THINK, SAY and DO more to enhance your club’s public image. YOU represent your club’s Public Image! Public Image is Everything and it relies on Everyone.
