Valley View Rotarians partnered with the City of Onalaska to refresh the faded Sun Dial at the Great River Landing Bike Trailhead, using a District 6250 grant to repaint it, add new stencils, and install a sign explaining its use—showcasing Rotary’s commitment to community improvement through collaboration.
A group of Valley View Rotarians noticed that the Sun Dial at the Great River Landing Bike Trailhead in Onalaska, Wisconsin was faded and needed maintenance. They worked with the city of Onalaska Park & Rec Department to devise a plan to refurbish the Sun Dial.
With funds from an awarded from a District 6250 grant, they purchased stencils and repainted the Sun Dial. They also added a new sign explaining how to use the Sun Dial.
The Sun Dial, located in a very popular intersection of the Great River State Bike Trail, is visible to thousands of tourists every year and is a representation of the City of Onalaska. This project is a great example of Rotarians recognizing an opportunity to improve the community and then making it happen. The collaboration between Rotary and the city government is an excellent example of how to get things done.
