SPLASH DOWN APPROACHING!  THE FINAL MONTH!
Matthew McCaunaugh gave a commencement address at the University of Houston back in 2015 in which he told the graduates to never leave any crumbs.  Crumbs being the things you could have easily done but didn't ... per Matthew "The crumbs I’m talking about are the choices that we make that make us have to look over our shoulder in the future."

We've arrived in the final month of our Rotary Year and the Lift Off that we had this past July has taken us on a mission unlike any of us could have imagined back then.  Our Mission Control Center is happy with our work and especially with how we've adjusted when the mission veered off script.  However, there are crumbs that we can easily still pick up.  Crumbs that on July 1st, or maybe a year from now, we will regret not having pursued.  In June, challenge yourself to find those crumbs in your own life and in your own Rotary Club.  Here are a few that I see laying around that are just begging to be picked up!

It looks as if every Club in our District is eligible for the Rotary International Citation this year.  Eligible being the key word because your Club Leaders still need to go on-line to fill in the blanks ... please help me in encouraging them to get that done! :)  For more crumbs read more.

DISTRICT 6250 PASSPORT CLUB STARTING SOON!
A brand new Passport Club is being formed in Rotary District 6250. Since time constraints is a major factor people leave Rotary, a Passport Club offers an alternative option to a traditional club model with the added flexibility needed by many to join, or stay involved in Rotary. This new club model will benefit our clubs, district, and Rotary itself.

The Passport Club and Traditional Clubs can enrich one another with these common goals:

ROTARY HELPING IN LA CROSSE
I just wanted to reach out one last time to say THANK YO for all of your help over the past 7 weeks.  I can't believe that tomorrow is our 7th and last Food Drive Friday collection.

So far we have collected of 60,000 pounds of food and $70,000 in these 2 hour collection sites.  With all of the online donations and matches, we have raised almost $200,000 and are likely to meet the $50,000 match from Fire Fighters Credit Union and any other donations that come in.  These collections will ensure that the Hunger Taskforce can continue to serve our community.

Thank You to Rotary, Rotary Lights and iFeed ... this would have been much more difficult and likely not as successful without your members.  Your partnership allowed the events to be held at 3 locations because of the colunteers that you secured.

We truly are part of a great community and I can't wait to see the totals ... great work by all involved!

POLIOPLUS AND BELOIT
It was with considerable pride that the Beloit Rotary Club learned that we are currently #1 in PolioPlus giving in our District for the 2019-20 Rotary year.  Many in our Club contributed but one club member went above and beyond.  In this link you can read about how Jim van de Bogart biked across the United States raising funds for PolioPlus.  The Beloit Rotary Club would like to challenge all our District Clubs and Rotarians to follow Jim's great example and give to PolioPlus during the final month of this Rotary year.  Because contributions have been down recently, the Rotary Foundation is asking all of us to do what we can so that Rotary can, once again, get the 2:1 Polioplus match from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation!

CERISE SIAMOF - OUR DISTRICT'S NEWEST GLOBAL SCHOLAR
Please welcome Cerise Siamof, District 6250’s newest Global Scholar.  Cerise is leaving for the UK in fall to study at the University of Cambridge in order to complete a Master’s degree in Philosophy of Heath, Medicine, and Society.  A graduate of UW-Madison with a B.S. in Biochemistry, Cerise is especially interested in a most timely topic:  the treatment and prevention of communicable diseases. She has already studied the effects of intestinal parasites.  Cerise works at St. Mary’s Hospital as a Senior Scribe with Madison Emergency Physicians, accompanying physicians as they meet with patients.  In her application for the scholarship, she wrote that she wanted to be an “Advocate for preventive medicine and culturally competent, unbiased health care.”  Scholars like her make our district proud that we are able to support their work.

ROTARIAN JIM BREY
Recently Lake Mills lost a life long resident and a truly fine human being in Jim Brey. As his obituary noted he was involved with numerous local organizations and associations, in addition to founding and developing Aztalan Engineering (AE), a high end machine shop known for its precision products. Jim would gladly take people through his plant and show off his workers and their machines.

One of his major clients was GE Medical and AE provided control mechanism for that company’s anesthesia machines, one group of which is ventilators. What is remarkable is that the finished product is sent directly from AE to hospitals and other medical sites without going through further quality testing at GE, which is normally required. AE is one of a very few companies that GE allows to ship directly to point of use locations.

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE FACE MASKS
As you may be aware, our district has received a delivery of masks from Gary Huang, Past RI President.  He, with the support of the Rotary Club of Taipei Fuling, have arranged to have 20, 000 handmade, washable protective face masks delivered to 6,800 RYE students in 135 countries.  I received our package of masks late last week and will contact the YEOs for the 7 remaining inbound students who have not already made their trip home to see how best to facilitate their delivery.  Gary asks that at least two masks be delivered to each of our remaining IB students and any remaining masks be donated to a local hospital or other group in need of medical supplies.

LATVIA AND WISCONSIN DELLS?
Since 2005 a group of Swedish Rotary clubs in district 2340 has been working together with Rotary clubs in Latvia and some other countries in order to make a difference for many people.
During the years we have been able to help mainly schools and elderly homes with modern equipment at a total amount of more than 200.000 €.

During the last three years, we have invested another 200.000€ in modern equipment at Jekabpils Hospital in the southeast part of Latvia. This has resulted in a good reputation for the hospitals neonatal ward and the entire hospital. The important thing ...

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL BOARD DECISIONS

The RI Board of Directors met in late April and took several important actions in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic to protect the health and safety of all participants in Rotary programs, meetings, and events.  I wanted to share those decisions with you and ask for your support. We will need to continue to adapt to this new environment and it will be challenging, but I am confident we are learning important lessons along the way that will help Rotary make the long-term changes needed to help us thrive for decades to come.

Most importantly, the Board decided that no in-person Rotary meeting or event shall be mandatory. Anyone who feels uncomfortable attending because of the pandemic, will be permitted to skip in-person events. This is a major change for us, and an essential one if we are going to properly care for all Rotarians and Rotaractors and continue to put their health and safety first.
