When the Rotary Club of Madison West Middleton asked itself, “Where do we want to be in five years?” a clear plan of priorities and strategies was developed. The Club Visioning experience led to five specific, achievable priorities. One of those priorities was to be visible in serving the needs of our community. From that, Rotary Works – Today! began to take shape.
Using Rotary’s seven Areas of Focus, a framework was developed to take a positive perspective designed to make life better, carrying out Rotary’s vision to Unite for Good. On September 27, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., area organizations and businesses will come together to commit an entire day to showcasing a local movement of action, service, and fun.
Imagine police and fire personnel reading books to kids, seminars on bees and pollination, free blood pressure checks, and a walk through the Trash Lab—all happening at the same time! Community rooms at the library will host discussions throughout the day on topics ranging from community building to job skill development to creating a rain garden. Live local entertainment will keep the mood festive throughout the day.
We’ll be collecting coats, diapers, books, used medical equipment, and food—and giving away kids’ books, toothbrushes, fingernail brushes, sanitizer, and more!
This event will also kick off our End Polio Now campaign with the sale of signature cups and agreements with local venues for discounts on beverage purchases and donations of a portion of beverage proceeds. The campaign will continue through World Polio Day on October 24.
Together, we will strengthen our community, enhance partnerships, and work and play side by side—knowing that strong communities help everyone enjoy life more fully.
