It’s hard to believe that TriCon 2025 has already come and gone; however, its memories continue to bring a smile to my face. I recall the familiar faces of fellow Rotarians who I now call friends and I find comfort in knowing that Rotary is truly my Third Place. Whether it’s my home club, connections within my district, or acquaintances from afar, Rotary has filled my life with goodness, inspired me to do more, and introduced me to like-minded friends who help me achieve what I couldn’t do alone. I know many of you have the same sentiments.
INSIGHTS FROM OUR SPEAKERS
It was Rick Kyte, Friday evening’s Plenary Speaker and Workshop presenter, who shared insights from him most recent book, Finding Your Third Place. He elaborated on the significance of having a third place and articulated why Rotary is such a natural fit for this concept.
When you take that coupled with Zone 25b-29 team members, Patrick Harrison and Ben Bauer’s message of “Public Image is Everything,” it is a wonder that more people aren’t pounding down our doors to join Rotary!
THE PATH FORWARD
We can do better. There are undoubtedly people who would thrive in our clubs. Sometimes, all it takes is an invitation. Sometimes, we need to adjust our clubs to make them more welcoming and inclusive. Consider your club from a visitor’s perspective: Is it warm and inviting? How is the food? What about the lighting and parking? Do members engage with one another? All of these factors contribute to your club’s public image.
Rotary provides a gathering place that is non-political and non-religious. Its mission is to promote world understanding, goodwill, and peace while offering us a space to connect, accomplish tasks, hold one another accountable, and adhere to the four-way test.
As we approach our new Rotary year, consider taking on the challenge of recruiting one new member by September. If you usually recruit one, why not aim for two? We all know someone who could benefit from Rotary—perhaps someone who is a bit lonely or in need of a meaningful project, someone eager to collaborate in strengthening our communities, or someone interested in international involvement.
Rotary has something to offer everyone, and it is up to each of us to foster change and growth within our clubs.
