We are thrilled to share some wonderful news about Isha’s life and studies as she approaches graduation. Her commencement ceremony at UW-Platteville is scheduled for May 17th, and we would love to see a strong show of support from all of you!

Hello Again,

I hope you’re doing well! It’s time for me to catch you up on what’s been happening in my life. Last time I wrote, I was living in Beloit with a Rotary host family and working as an intern for The Morse Group. That summer was so much fun! One of my favorite memories is watching my host dad, Nick, perform with his band, Nick and Friends. But just like every summer, it went by fast. Before I knew it, I was back in Platteville, starting my final year of college.

This year, I moved into an apartment with Livia, someone I met at the gym. She’s been a great roommate, and we get along so well—it’s made this year feel extra special. School has been busy but good. I took 14 credits this semester, including classes like Real Analysis, Music Appreciation, Management, Gender and Race, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In my GIS class, I worked on a project where I had to digitize a map from the 1960s for a township in Richland County. It was actually a lot of fun!

I also did research again with the same professor I worked with last fall. As part of this, I got to travel to UT Dallas to present our findings and learn about the research other students are doing there. Every time I visit, I’m amazed by their labs, and it makes me think more seriously about going to grad school someday. This semester went well overall—I even made the Dean’s List!

Outside of classes, I kept up with my three campus jobs: math tutor, box office worker, and Women in STEM student assistant. This year, I’m the Lead Student Assistant for the Women in STEM program, which has been a great experience. It’s taught me a lot about being a leader and working with a team. I’ve also stayed involved in a few clubs, but I stepped back from leadership roles to focus on applying for jobs.

Speaking of jobs, the search has been tough. I’ve sent out applications but haven’t heard back much. I’m hoping the career fair in the spring will bring better luck.

At home, my family is doing well. My dad is feeling better, though he still has some nerve pain. My mom is busy with her job, and the big news is that my brother is now in the U.S.! He’s studying Mechatronics Engineering at Kent State University in Ohio. I hadn’t seen him in two years, so it was really special to see him during Thanksgiving. We even got to explore Chicago together, and he met two of my host families.

Looking ahead, I have just 13 credits left to graduate, but I’m planning to take 16 so I can fit in a computer science class I’ve been wanting to take. Graduation is coming up on May 17th, and I’m so excited. It feels surreal to be this close to the finish line.

I wouldn’t be here without your help and support, and I can’t thank you enough. If you’d like to come to Platteville for my graduation, I’d love to celebrate with you. Please let Edwin or I know!

Thanks again for everything you’ve done to help me along the way.

Best,
