Meet  2020 - 2021  District Governor - Sue Halambeck

Sue Halambeck has been a proud member of the Sun Prairie Rotary Club since 2004. She has served on both the Sun Prairie Rotary Board and Sun Prairie Rotary Foundation Board. Sue graduated from Antigo High School and University of Minnesota (BS and Master of Agriculture in Food Technology). After graduation, she worked at the University of Minnesota for 8 years. Sue found her work on a cheese program establishing cheese production on family farms was particularly rewarding. She then spent 28 years at Kraft Foods/Oscar Mayer in various technical and managerial positions in R&D, Quality and Technical Service.
While at Kraft Foods/Oscar Mayer, Sue participated in many United Way Days of Caring. In addition, she participated in a joint Kraft/United Nations Volunteer Program, volunteering on projects such as one to help a company in Guyana, South America, improve their cheese production. Sue has also served on the Northeast YMCA of Dane County Advisory Board, the TCM Stewardship Subcommittee for the Triangle Community Downtown Madison, and as a Make a Wish granter.
At the Rotary district level, Sue has served as District Grants Committee Chair since 2015. In this role, Sue learned the power of Rotary at the international and local level. She has been in awe at what a difference clubs are doing in their communities.
Sue served as the Sun Prairie Rotary Club’s President in 2008/09. She was the chair of club’s golf fundraiser for many years, and chaired the Sun Prairie Rotary’s 50 year celebration in 2010. Beginning in 2017, she helped form the club’s new membership orientation committee. She is most passionate in regards to the Sun Prairie Rotary Ethics-Kindness effort, in which every fourth grader in the Sun Prairie school district attends a Kindness Retreat covering ethics and anti-bullying topics. The Kindness Retreat has been offered through Youth Frontiers to over 3,800 students in the last 6 years. She also serves on the Youth Frontiers’ Madison Advisory Board.
Experiencing cultures via exchange programs has been a rewarding life experience for Sue, who has participated in District 6250 Friendship Exchanges to Sweden and Australia.  Sue has also served as a host mom for a French youth exchange student and recently was able visit her in France.
Sue lives in Sun Prairie. She is a supporter of the Rotary Foundation, a Paul Harris plus member and Paul Harris Society member. Since retiring in 2013, she spends her time travelling, golfing, reading and cooking.
